SBS is a variety of SBCs with the largest production (accounting for over 70%), the lowest cost, and a wide range of applications. It is a triblock copolymer with styrene and butadiene as monomers, which combines the characteristics of plastic and rubber, and is known as the "third generation synthetic rubber". Similar to styrene-butadiene rubber, SBS can come into contact with water, weak acids, alkalis, etc. It has excellent tensile strength, large surface friction coefficient, good low-temperature performance, excellent electrical performance, and good processing performance, making it the most widely consumed thermoplastic elastomer.

Shoemaking industry
The sole made of SBS instead of vulcanized rubber and polyvinyl chloride has good elasticity, beautiful color, good wet slip resistance, air permeability, wear resistance, low temperature and flexural resistance, no smelly feet, comfortable wearing and other advantages, and has a high friction coefficient on asphalt pavement, wet and snow pavement. The waste SBS sole can be recycled and the cost is moderate. The sole pattern can be translucent tendon sole or colorful two-color sole, can also be made into foam sole.
Asphalt modification
The application of SBS in asphalt modification includes two aspects: asphalt modification of waterproof coil and road asphalt modification. The asphalt waterproof sheet modified with SBS has the characteristics of good low temperature flexibility, good self-healing ability and durability, high temperature flow resistance, aging resistance, good thermal stability and impact resistance, which can greatly improve the performance of waterproof sheet, extend its service life, and meet the needs of important buildings and structures. It has been widely used in municipal engineering including bridge deck (concrete), subway and underpass, as well as water conservancy engineering including pools and canals.
Polymer modification
SBS is a better resin modifier, which can be blended with PP, PE, PS, ABS and other resins to improve the impact resistance and flexion properties of products, such products are mostly used in electrical components, car steering wheels, bumpers, seals and so on. Compared with foreign developed countries and regions, China's polymer modification industry is still in its infancy. In 2003, the consumption of SBS in polymer modification in China was about 16,500 tons. With the development of China's automobile industry and home appliance industry, consumers will gradually improve the comfort, safety, durability and other performance requirements of goods, coupled with the rapid development of China's synthetic resin industry, the domestic polymer modification industry will be booming.
Binding agent
Because SBS has good solubility in hydrocarbon solvents, fast dissolution, good stability and strong cohesion, it avoids the harm to human health by using aromatic hydrocarbon solvents. Coupled with SBS adhesive good elasticity, bonding strength and low temperature performance, low viscosity, creep resistance is better than the general EVA, acrylic adhesives, in life has been widely used. It can be used in the production of adhesive for shoes, metallurgical powder molding agent, laminating adhesive, wood quick drying adhesive, label, tape adhesive, disposable sanitary products adhesive, laminating adhesive, sealant and for hooks, electronic components and general strong adhesive, universal adhesive and self-adhesive.
Other fields
SBS can also be used as the main raw material for toys, furniture and sports equipment; It is used as flooring material, car seat cushion material, carpet base and sound insulation material, and wire and cable sheathing. In addition, SBS can also be used in cement processing, automobile manufacturing and house decoration, as well as the manufacture of various rubber hoses for bright oil, medical devices, household appliances, pipe belts and wire and cable.
